Our Story

The Birth of Baba Car Rentals

In 2013, during our PCS move to Hawaiʻi, we found ourselves facing the same challenges as so many other service members and encountered overwhelming out-of-pocket expenses. When we finally arrived on-island, all we needed was the cheapest car possible while we waited for our POV. We just needed some wheels to check into our new units, head to the commissary, and start getting our housing in order.

Although this was back in 2013, the cheapest rental available was a brand-new Jeep Wrangler from a national rental agency. It cost us nearly $700 a week—a huge strain on our budget. That’s when we realized there must be others in the same boat—people who didn’t need the flashiest car, just something reliable and affordable to get where they needed to go.

That experience planted the seed for Baba Car Rentals. Today, we’re honored to have a big enough fleet to serve everyone in the community. We serve military members, kamaʻaina who need a car while theirs is in the shop, visitors looking for budget-friendly options, and even fellow local businesses.

We’re blessed to have the support of a growing ohana, and we’re committed to making reliable, affordable transportation accessible to all—without breaking the bank.

Why the name Baba Car Rentals?

In our family, we call each other “Baba.” It’s a simple word, but to us, it carries the meaning of love, connection, and responsibility. When we started Baba Car Rentals, we chose this name because it reflects the values that guide us every day—values that are also deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture.
